Being fully automated is easy to do like this although in my case a bit more than $100.
A computer is needed and windows 10 has Groove Music standard with it and it has EQ settings and works close to Zara or some others except it doesn't fade in or out or give time in real time. Shows next song to be played and can be set at random with gapless playback.
I'm still using a higher end MP3 player with gapless playbck and custom EQ settings and volume levelling on board $100+ and holds 4000 tracks in one folder. But an MP3 player is not needed as the computer can be used.
A top of the line Olympus voice recorder with high quality setting for "recording" other things besides voice and does it in MP3 files....$150. Needed for all the Id's and voice tracks.
Compressor.....$200 Transmitter....any good one that's certified $200 to $900 depending which one you get and new or used
So in my case an automated start up station would be:
Computer windows 10 refurbished.....$250-$300
Olympus voice recorder in MP3 files with high quality 196 bit rate and setting for eliminating background noise...$150 Transmitter....Decade, an average price you'd have to pay $400 and this applies for AM too. Compressor...$200(needed to get to the volume of other stations)
Total= $1050.00

That's really a modern way to do it, all remote connected and a server computer and an app.
I have all used and cheap equipment, going with my station's philosophy of spending in line with its reach.
I have it in a tiny bar room, access to where the power line comes in to feed carrier current there. The transmitter is an old LPB model, and it was $75 for 5 watts.
The computer is an Atom chip for low power draw, and a flat monitor I got on Craig's list free and all audio functions are done on the computer, playback to compressor/limiter, with Window XP which has an easy to use and stable audio system.
There's no network access, everything is put on the computer using 'sneakernet' with a USB chip or Book/ Pass Port USB hard drive for faster loading of big files. Music comes from CD rips, vinyl, donations, You Tube grabber, etc.
I can also go live with a mixer and mics by plugging into Line-In on the sound card, and switching that input to active. That's something for the future though.
