Good point, though carrier current still has some use, IMO. Man that is such a bad idea I'm not even sure where to start to pick it apart. The single biggest issue is that the overwhelming majority of radio listening is done in cars and not homes, rendering the carrier current signal near useless.

Carrier Current Can Do More Than Some People Think
When I tested carrier current it was receivable in the car all along the powerline for 1,000 feet.
In my area powerlines are strung along the streets.
In neighborhoods where powerlines are in the rear of home lots or underground the carrier current signal might not reach the street.

I think carrier current could certainly be used to fill coverage gaps but I wouldn't advocate to drop the free-standing radiators.

Absolutely
Mighty 1650 good advice: "I wouldn't advocate to drop the free-standing radiators."
That is very important.
We should use everything we have.
I have even long recommended multiple transmitters on every open frequency available.

Not worked on my Ham ticket yet because I'm working hard on my Album Rock station.
C Quan AM stereo will be happening in June and I am really going to be doing a big promotion for AM stereo and the radios to receive them for the folks in Deltaville.
Carrier current is something we're really looking into if the regular antenna does not achieve the range I want. So far it's looking more and more towards the carrier current.
Starting to get some real backers and investors in this radio station so I'm really trying hard to make it a chieve the best performance as possible.
Thanks to Robert we are going C Quan and Deltaville will be one town where Album Rock will be resurrected and AM be revitalized on 1700 Khz.

Troy, Thanks for your post and please keep us up to date on your progress! What transmitter are you using? Is it still the Talking House or have you moved up to the Procaster? Please let us know your results either way. BTW the point of my previous post was that I see so many ALPB members "waxing philosophical", about what might be or what could be, but so few stepping up to actually effect change in the real world... I have been trying to provide a path to real change but no one seems willing to try to make it happen.

My broadcast engineer is building me a Sean Cuthbert C Quam Transmitter. Its coming Thursday!! The transmitter could be connected to a Carrier Current coupler/amplifier and we could go 0-15 Watts CC. We'll try the antenna first to see what happens. Our C Quam AM receiver list will be linked to our station's web site as well so people in Deltaville can buy a decent AM receiver with C Quam.
Until we get the C Quam we are using the Talking House V5.0 With the Phonic PCL 3200 along side the crossover we have "Listenable" AM sound that is entry level for Album Rock. It was a hard time having my Engineer tune till we had Album Rock sound from an otherwise absolute horrible audio quality you will get without one on a Talking House 5.0.
Current Range is 0.9-1 mile (One Mile Fringe) and you can here the station follow the power lines. We are going to try a different antenna design and if that don't work its carrier current time.

Troy, Sounds like great potential and it also sounds like you have that rare potential of a dense audience population within your listening area. I predict it will be a success! One thing I am skeptical of though is that you can persuade your audience to buy appropriate MW receivers. I hope that I am wrong but I suspect that your success will be proportional to the quality of programming that you can offer them.

I'm really hoping that if my listeners like the quality of programming that I have meaning they see a value in a niche type of programming that I'm going to offer they may go ahead and get the receivers so that they can use them to have even more of an experience.
I have listened to the demos of these HD radios which not only pickup C quam AM stereo but also HD AM and FM and have Superior reception on both. The sangean HD radios seem to really have an awesome am receiver which means guess what AM revitalization.
I do know a rock station on 106.9 which is sort of a classic hits station does have HD but I don't know what there HD2 and HD3 stations have on them. As the station is near Norfolk I'm wondering if I would ever pick up the HD signal on a radio like a sangean HDR-16 or a radiosophy HD100.
My campaign will be for hobby broadcasting on the am broadcast band and how folks May travel and could benefit from other hobby broadcasters from 1620-1700 kilohertz.
I still think we should have a sort of AM C quam stereo Club and list all the hobby stations that are broadcasting in C qualm. Maybe even convince the HD radio manufacturers to start advertising that they can actually decode C Quan and have a list of hobby stations along with the manual that comes with the radio.
By doing this we could resurrect the hybrid radio thus they will sell more and it will also convince people to stop buying these cheap radios that have poor receivers because most of the HD radios have better analog receivers. This was shown on many YouTube demos. The selectivity of these radios are far superior so even if you don't use it for HD radio your analog reception is much better as well so it make sense to buy one of them.
I will be saving up for one of those radios so I can find out exactly what's going to happen. I may even try and pick up commercial AM stations to see which ones are in C Quan and which ones simply transmit HD AM.
By the way HD does not stand for high definition on these radios. It stands for hybrid digital. IBOC stands for in band on Channel. However we all know that I bought takes about three channels because of the Sawtooth like tones you hear a channel above and a channel below the HD station.
At least C quam AM stereo does not do that. So in a sentence it's not going to take up more room like HD would to transmit.
I will keep you posted on this project along with the initiative site because now I really think our initiative should be helping people find great receivers for C qualm AM Stereo.
