Anything Could Be Wrong
It happens randomly.
I'll be monitoring KDX on the FM radio and for no known reason the volume level will suddenly raise right during a continuous portion of a program that has a stable level on the audiofile. I guess.
But the other thing that happens randomly is that the volume level will reduce all by itself.
My first thought was that StereoTool was drifting.
My second thought was that the cable from the computer audio jack to the FM transmitter was goofy.
My third thought was that an RF field was saturating my transmission antenna and attenuating the RF output.
My fourth thought was that sonic waves were passing through the acoustical space and absorbing the level of the radio.
My fifth thought was that something was happening not covered in my numbered thoughts.
Sixth thought -- neurological impairment.
Seventh thought -- a sign from god.
Eighth thought -- sunspots.

Your second thought was best....audio cable connectors and jacks need alcohol cleaning including the audio jack on the computer as they tarnish and loose some conductivity after awhile if not gold plated.
Your house could be inhabited by a spirit and they can make anything happen.

One of Our Bestest Members
Hey!
You all pay attention now!
Johny Cole operates RagFM from a home-studio in New Zealand near the city of Ragland.
He has attended every ALPB meeting since the beginning, and is credited with the one he missed.
Johny is easy going. He never criticizes us dorfs in the U.S. for our goofus Nationalism.
The ALPB claims to be international, but members declare their nationalism (a kind of stupid loyalty to a nation of war criminals murdering innocent people in numerous countries and turning a blind eye to Israels sporty sniping of defenseless Palestinians within the Gaza prison fence.
We have members saying "That's just your opinion", despite factual evidence numbered in dead bodies.
And a member of the ALPB actually said "If people want to be included they should speak "american", which actually would only be a language if we learned Navajo or Apache. The language commonly spoken in the U.S. is the British language.
Johny lets all that breeze by and loyally attends ALPB meetings.
We must do more to recognize Johny in our fumbling activities.

Thanks Carl, I always thought the World Wide Web would help more to even out the nationalism, I heard that when the net was new and more idealistic.
As for the connector issue, I thought it might be that too, I haven't had so many RCA phono plug issues, but the stereo eighth-inch plugs that go into the computer's sound card have a habit of every so often causing distortion or a low level in one channel, and moving 'exercising' them a little is enough to bring the sound back.

Maybe We'll Find Out
The leading opinion given in this thread is that the connector plugs connecting computer and transmitters might be "iffy".
We shall see, because today we will put a test tone and meter to observe the audio line before cleaning all the plugs and again after.
The results will not be published in the New York Times, but will be mentioned here.

Here's how I clean the jacks(female) in the computer, transmitter, compressor etc. Get some 99% alcohol in a medicine dropper and squirt a drop into the jack and then plug the male jack into it and twist it around a few times. The RCA plug can be cleaned the same way.

It is sad the Mark has to clarify that a jack is female but I get it. I hear people all the time referring to a plug as a jack. Maybe a "Jack" should be referred to as a "Jill?"

Agenda Item
Druid Hills suggests: "Maybe a "Jack" should be referred to as a "Jill?""
Your suggestion has been received at ALPB Headquarters and will be included in the next Meeting Agenda of our Standards Committee.

Make It Tomorrow
Today is over and the maintenance cleaning of our audio chain was avoided, so we'll do it tomorrow.
Besides, there was no malfunction noticed today... the station audio has held firm all day.
