News as a Program
It appears that the majority of ALPB member stations program music.
Do any of our music stations also carry newscasts?
We should probably build a detailed data-base of what our stations do.
At this time it appears that HBR and KDX are the only two primarily talk stations, with KDX leaning heavily on the news side.
It is not possible for a station operator to keep a good news service unless he gets familiar with details in the news... knowing which newscasters are reliable and which ones distort the news for some special agenda.
Then once in awhile we become aware that huge lies are intentionally injected into the news stream by governments, including our own.
We learned this morning that the Pentagon has been lying to Congress, the American people, and the journalists regarding the involvement of the U.S. in the warfare against Yemen.
This kind of complication makes it difficult where to assign loyalties.
Is National Security involved with perpetrating certain lies? Is the cloak of "national security" used to bluff, frighten, abuse the purity of news bureaus?
Are human beings just a bunch of cheating, scheming, self-serving, cold-blooded animals that only pretend to have moral codes?
It's rough working in an honest newsroom.
Frankly, KDX will broadcast lies for the right money. We will carry anyone's religious message for $250 an hour. There should probably be a price put on political propaganda because the lie business might be smarter than constantly battling for some "standard" over which most people have become indifferent or for which threats start getting e-mailed.
Ignorance is tempting at times like these.

Carl you are correct that HBR is primarily a talk station but I do carry Gaule's Moldie Oldies and I am trying to carry The Oompah Hour, but his Internet stream seems to drop out after just a few minutes every time.

A Little of This and Some of That
HBR, the radio service operated by the ALPB Admin, reports: "HBR is primarily a talk station but I do carry Gaule's Moldie Oldies and I am trying to carry The Oompah Hour."
Actually KDX also carries some prime music programs although the main focus is on world news...
Currently KDX is carrying the New Orleans Jazz Festival Live as we do every year. This will run 8-hours daily until the conclusion on Sunday evening.
KDX has four major weekly classical concert programs as well.
DHR wonders: "When you say "American People" are you saying that the Pentagon has been lying to Mexicans and Canadians as well. And how about Brazil? Them too?"
Yes, when government lies it's an international lie.
The real question is, if the news is based on official lies, what is "fake news"?
KDX is thinking about opening a "Lie Report" so we can track current and past lies and their consequences.
Lying to Congress is a good idea because then they can't be called "complicit".
Keeping track of lies by the liars requires a special lie adviser, a job they don't mention at school job fairs.

DHR & WLSL Also Carries News
In this world you've got to speak up for yourself. You almost let us overlook the news programming carried by WLSL-LP in Saint Leo.
You probably already know what you carry, but it includes Democracy Now, Between the Lines, TUC Radio and Shortwave Report.
WLSL is lie proof.

I'm mostly music, with several other talk radio-podcast programs that run every day a few random times.
I do music for a few reasons, one is that it's easy, and varied, and with a playlist you can create an eclectic or underground radio sound, or whatever mood you'd like, going by genre.
Another reason is music is less common on AM radio, so it's doing something different to have a music station there.
I listen to my station a lot, and if I'm doing ALPB or writing e-mails, I don't like a talk show to come on. Talk radio is too engaging and I can't write at the same time.
I like the concept of having a newscast, like the few minutes of hourly headlines that most stations seemed to break for in the AM and FM era. Even on a music dedicated station, they'd break for some headlines and local news bits. When I was starting as a music radio fan, I didn't like that, but later I could see how that bit of news was informative, and now I can really see it, with all of the automated formats and stations that have dropped news.
One problem here is that I don't have a net feed to my station's computer, so any news I'd put on it would have to be downloaded and put on a chip, then taken to the radio computer.
I figure all of this is like advanced stuff for when my station is built up, with more status (and maybe personnel) that makes me want to be responsible and program more things like news. We're not ready to break out like that yet, I'm afraid.

News in Mind
Boomer looks ahead: "I figure all of this is like advanced stuff for when my station is built up, with more status (and maybe personnel) that makes me want to be responsible and program more things like news. We're not ready to break out like that yet, I'm afraid."
But you have it in mind... you can foresee a day when your station expands to become more informative, and that is good growth.
