Thought Clogger
Alright, think about this.
Starting at 11 AM local time KDX (my station) began carrying the live Jazz Fest stream from WWOZ in New Orleans. The stream passed through our spigot uninterrupted until 2:30 PM when all went silent. Come to think of it Zara, our automation software, didn't kick ahead to a next event, so I guess the stream was intact and the audio had somehow gotten interrupted at their end.
But I reacted and ran a PSA, then tried to rejoin the stream but it kicked it back to me, so I tried again and it latched. The Jazz Fest was back on the air.
I think I have answered my own question. If I'd left it alone it probably would have resolved itself.
You may go back to whatever you were doing. There is nothing to see here.

Dogs might call that a head cocker
That happens to me too, a stream might cut out and not reconnect, even though the timer on player is still working. Sometimes it will just say 'Connecting..' and never do so again.
I seem to have trouble with streams, either at the beginning, where there will be dropouts until it stabilizes, and after something has been running for a while. I think it might vary depending on the player used as well.
I wonder what the big guns use to feed streams to their transmitters from the network? I know something about Barix used as studio to transmitter links, but what about from national headquarters to stations, or stations that get several feeds by streaming?
There must be a program that can automatically check for various problems and do what it has to and reconnect, even restart the whole program, the audio engine, or just the stream, so you might lose a minute max, but not be dead in the water, unless the sender is at fault.
Do you know about the Pira CZ Radio Silence Detector? It's a program that listens for silence, and after a determined length of time, it will play something canned, like music, or another program file. If the stream would come back, it can then go back to it again.

This is why I try to monitor my station whenever I take to the internet, or the airwaves.
