Wow!
This week's SymphonyCast is something to hear!
The 3rd work on the program is Symphony No. 5 by Prokofiev, an exceptional sonic experience in sound.
In the early 1980s I happened to be in the audience when Jerzy Semkow conducted the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra in a performance of this work, and when it finished I was so spellbound I couldn't speak.
That was a Friday afternoon concert, and I returned for the repeat performances both Saturday and Sunday completely on my own, no date, because I had to hear the music again.
There is something about the way it ends.
In fact the entire sweep of all four movements lead the way to that ending, which is completely astonishing like a near-death experience. That's all I'll say for now.
Listen to it and let us know what you think.
