Have You Ever Tried To Locate Something You Know Is in the Threads But Can't Find It?
I've posted on a wide range of subjects and topics and very often the category is non-specific... like recently I wondered about audio processing software other than Stereo Tool, and I seem to recall that Mark and Boomer had several suggestions, but now after days of looking around I can't find those posts!
It might not even be on this forum, it might be at part15_US, but I've looked there and ended up back here where it could be under "Studio" or "Transmitter" or possibly "General" but I've been scrolling everywhere and just can't find anything!
What's the point of all this if nothing can ever be found a second time?

I can't recall those posts either. Trouble is that as new posts come the others get pushed down and very quickly disappear on the back pages as does with all forums and groups on Facebook. There's hundreds of pages preceding on this forum and more on part 15.us so once they get replaced by new ones how do you find a discussion from the past? Maybe there could be a way of marking a page for later referral...bookmarking it is one way but other than that I don't know how you would find a post from a few months to a few years ago. With Facebook it's worse. A post gets replaced with more and you can scroll down endlessly for past ones. It's just a L....O....N.....G page! If you aren't there at a given time you miss hundreds of recent posts as only the latest ones in the last hour are at the start.....nuts!
Take this thread, by tomorrow it will be back on past pages already or at the bottom of the list on the opening page. And then disappears in the past.

That's one of the challenges when attempting to conduct ALPB business via the Forum. We'll have to minimize the number of threads, and ensure that they stay on topic.
I've not had much experience with the search engine on this Forum. Did you try it when attempting to find the information you sought?

Search Engine
Admin brings up a question for exploration: "...the search engine on this Forum. Did you try it...?"
Fact is I didn't realize there is a search engine on the forum. I'll still need to hunt for it, but now you've told me it is here somewhere.
The next thing will be recalling a useful keyword... I think that 3 software audio processors were mentioned but I do not remember the name of any of them.
But maybe "software audio processor" might do the job. We shall try.

Oh Yes I Remember This Search Engine
It is like playing a complicated spider's web as a musical instrument trying to stay in the Key of C.
Our Search Engine is very elaborate.
It came up with 8 possible threads, but none of them seem to be the right one.
I'll start over again by asking the original question.
Q. Please tell me about any software audio processors other than Stereo Tool.
I will open a new thread on this subject and keep asking it until the world declares peace.

I remember woofin' about processing recently, but I can't find it either. I think it was under a post with another title, and maybe one with several pages that just got on to the topic of station sound for your new station KHZ? I'm not a poster at P15 US.
I don't know if regimenting posts is the total answer, since drifts and abrupt changes happen in normal conversation. It happens on more informal talk shows on the radio all the time, and a good host can remember where the original topic or topics left off, and circle back for closure.
I have the same kind of problem with trying to find something that was discussed on forums. Weeks after reading something, the info will suddenly be relevant for a project, and I have to mount an expedition through forum topics, browser histories, and neural pathways to try to find it.
I too find Facebook is impossible for research and information gathering. It's strength is getting those with like interests and family members together, but it's run more like an overhyped dance party, all social stimulation and amusement in the moment, but not much gets done.
I'll keep looking for it Carl.

Boomer is More Than a Loud Noise
True Words said by Boomer: "I don't know if regimenting posts is the total answer, since drifts and abrupt changes happen in normal conversation. That's the one and only fact of the matter.
At these forum sites there have been cattle drives to keep all the topics in the pen going on for years but it will never happen and it can't happen unless we have species change surgery.
My interest in "audio processing" is about "Studio" and "Transmitter" and "Computers" and "General"... almost any thread.
There could easily have been a shift in quantum reality.

Mystery Solved By Inspector Boomer!Boomer has proven a fact of life... No search tool can find an e-mail in a forum! It was by e-mail that Boomer sent information on the Sonos DSP Audio Processor, and my usually crystal-clear brain remembered it as if it had come by a forum post. I usually don't say this, but LOL! Here is the Lost Audio Processor Information

Sonos Audio Processor is Installed
KHZ "The Free Speech Zone" is now running through the Sonos Software Audio Processor thanks to Boomer for helping me find it.
Tomorrow we will study the controls and get it set for a nice "upfront" sound.
Forums can be great sometimes!

Great Carl, I'm glad you got it going! I like to push the Limit. I use my copy with VWestlife's radio.fmt format file almost untouched, just adjusting the input level most times. I find it's nice to keep levels under control without sounding like too much level change or compression is intruding. I've also used Sonos Limit for on the go broadcasting with a laptop, easy to set up and light on the laptop's power. I've also adjusted it for the 1960s energetic AM hit radio sound, like an Audimax/Volumax combo, it can do that pretty faithfully by speeding up the ALC release, timing the ALC attack, and adding more compression and limiting, and feeding it to an AM transmitter. I thought it was pretty authentic, maybe not as enjoyable to listen to, but real. Since Sonos has return-to-zero gating, it can duplicate that part of older processors too. When I use Limit, I install the program, then make a folder in the program's folder for the VWestlife format files, so there's always a copy of the originals unchanged. I usually start with one of his, make settings changes, then save it as a new file name with the date. Here's the link again, and the Sonos Limit program is linked in the video's description. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0pV90N-8ZA You mentioned the Anything Goes room proposal for ALPB members and broadcasting it, and there could be salty language to look out for. You could use another nice and easy program for that, Radiodelay. www.daansystems.com/radiodelay/I haven't used it for profanity delay, but have used it for 'Loop Theater' special delay effects. RadioDelay works great for a freeware program.
I was using it at the LPFM for quite awhile. Handy for live call-ins.
A nice addition to the program would be fill in audio for those awkward silent moments when you hit the button.
I've stopped using it due to Win10 updates that screw up all the sound system settings.

Solutions for EverythingMaybe there is a way to prevent Windows 10 updates... The website I'm about to link will point to grc_com, website of Steve Gibson, computer security expert and weekly co-host of "Security Now" on the TWiT_net. When you are there click Freeware/Utilities/Never10 Gibson ResearchOn now to more about Sonos Audio Processing... As I've learned more about it I discover the wonderful fact that within the Framework where the components of the device are plopped, it is possible to have MORE audio processors, which means I'll have processing when I add stream No. 3. This is so tremendous that I'm picking up the drink tab at the next ALPB meeting!

On first glance though it looks like this is mainly for those who do not have Win 10 and don't want to upgrade to it. Is that correct? I have Win 10 on most of my PCs and actually like it, except for the latest update of 2/13/18 that disables all USP mice. I searched around and I'm not the only one this has happened to. I uninstalled that update but still looking for a way to prevent it being installed again. I have found that you can do that via Group Policy editor but I think that is only for Enterprise versions of Windows, and also you can do it via Registry Editor, which is more my speed. In the meantime I will download Win 10 and poke around it. Thanks again!

While on the subject of Windows utilities, you might wish to check out Classic Shell , unless you already use it. Classic Shell allows you to change your Windows Start Menu in several ways, such as make it look like Win XP, Win 7, or Win 8. Honestly I would not like Win 10 nearly as much if I could not change its start menu to Win 7 format, and I might not use Win 10 at all if I had to use the Win 10 Start Menu. Check it out!
