A while back I think on part 15.us I posted about mono vs stereo on FM with articles that I got the info from. For considerately better coverage and a better signal mono is best. Any radio is way more sensitive in mono and that includes portables like Tecson etc. to Hi-Fi tuners. Not only that but the more info that has to be transmitted in the same bandwidth affects the effective coverage your transmitter will do with the same transmitted power....a transmitter will have the beat range with just an unmodulated carrier. Michael at decade told me all about this also. Even commercial stations would increase their range if broadcasting mono. When you are listening on a radio you don't get the effect anyway. Or, if you are doing other things while listening and not in the exact spot indoors between the speakers you don't hear it. Only headphones give you the true effect and me, I can't be wired up all the time. I am using the Decade mono MS-100 for my FM BETS-1/part15 on air. Just my take on this. I don't disagree with your observations. It's just that the bulk of our listeners are on the 60 dBuV area and some programs we run like the Hour of Slack are very spatially produced. Transmitting in mono would ruin the effect.
