"We had received several queries regarding if the external antenna tuning unit range extender is actually a legal component for use with the transmitter. I spoke with Radio Systems this past Friday and after researching all the paperwork they acquired from the former manufacturer they were happy to report that the external tuner was indeed part of the testing for and certification acceptance for the transmitter.
Radio Systems will be posting this info on their web site in the not too distant future."

Time Under the Bridge
Time has passed and trespasses have passed along with it not to mention water under the bridge, so is it maybe time to join forces with Hobby Caster and become The North American Alliance of Low Power Broadcasters?
That was good that they checked into the legality of the Tuning Unit.
So, if we build a clone tuning unit would it be legal?

That might be an idea, build something similar and lean on prior art.
I both like and don't like what I see with the external tuner. From what I see in photos and on the schematic of the insides of the unit, it never was a great value for what you get.
The components look like cheap receiving tuner parts, and uses ferrite-loaded tuner coils for tuning, not the most efficient way to build that circuit, but it allows the tuner to cover the whole broadcast band.

I just caught that Carl. Not sure if it's a real question or wry wit.

I think he means a unit to tune clones of the tuning unit, that's how I read it.
