Mystery of Voltage Out of Nowhere
KDX has a Zoom H4 Digital Audio Recorder.
The Zoom is powered by 2 - AA batteries.
Each battery produces 1.2VDC, therefore both in series provides 2.4 VDC.
Yet the XLR balanced microphone input can be set to provide either 24 VDC or 48 VDC phantom power to a microphone.
Where is all that extra voltage coming from?

A switching power supply upverter.

Find Out By Asking
Admin had the answer! "A switching power supply upverter."
Fantastic!
I want to build one of those for the Alpmic so I can ditch the 9V battery and use one AA battery, but I need about 4 or 5 volts.
Where can I find an "upverter" circuit"
