Howdy y'all:
These units where new
I have personally tested the taking house 5.0 and the I Am tx
Under same location and setup, antenna, atu, cable, power supply!.
I can tell you in the range drive test on the same day I found
That the talking house 5.0 BEAT the pants off the
I AM tx in the range coverage test under same conditions
At my locations!.
This is my results
Have fun with the hobby

It just doesn't make sense, the Talking House 5 and the iAM are identical units in every respect with exception to an audio enhancement component that's added for an additional $100. Maybe you got a bum unit. Perhaps you should contact customer service.
It's also worth mentioning that the HB review (www.hobbybroadcaster.net/reviews/iA.M.Radio-AM-Transmitter.php) commented "..To our surprise, the coverage was slightly better than our documented coverage with the Rangemaster mounted in the same location. Coverage was slightly better than three-quarters of a mile..." (That's with the ATU and a 100% compliant ground mounted install.
But my major point is that the two models are essentially the same unit, so naturally should perform identically.

Howdy y'all: Rich my back ground is 20 year in regular electronic and industrial electronic!. I have taken both talking house 5.0 and IAM tx apart to verify quality workmanship And I found small issue so I took care of them in both tx Both use the same mother boards in the TH 5.0 & IAM Tx The talking house 5.0 is original design factory The IAM tx has traces cuts on motherboard and has 23 new components added to the circuit and One is a adjustable power pot control When you test both of these tx on a rf power meter The taking house 5.0 shown more output then the IAM transmitter. In my experience any modifications you do will Either work great or NOT SO HOT it's a hit And miss so you just have to try it this
Pertain to other electronics as well
NOTE: Test done with dead carrier on both!.
I hope this helps you out
Have fun

Now it all makes sense! Now I see what The Legacy was talking about, thanks for clearing it up and doing the research.
Now, go and have a Great Dane all!

Howdy Y'all: On Talking House series am transmitters one thing I notice I could see better Improvement on is better rf output filtering which could be achieved by making adapter To screw on the outdoor 75 ohm connector to clean the output better. In my opinion the transmitters do bleed more then they should, But are still legal!.
If you have the schematic for the transmitters you also could change the electrolitic Capacitor in line to the audio circuit to give you better audio quality. ( Qualifed personal only please ). Hope this helps out Station 8

Just my observation without the electronics knowledge that you Station 8 has. I agree with End 80. But it does make a little sense. The only difference is the mods for better audio. BUT....one has fixed power not adjustable and the newer one does which means that this is not an apples to apples comparison as the IAM model is subject to the intervention with the power adjust control.
That explains to me why the newer one had less output than the 5.0
They should perform identically as End 80 said IF the IAM model is adjusted to equal the output of the 5.0

Howdy Y'all: Let's see if I can explain this better, I do agree with you on some respected, I have both the 5.0 and the iam transmitter., I taken both apart yes they are identical in some ways inside., But the iam transmitter has 22 more components then the talking house 5.0., This is what makes the two transmitters different now!, The talking house 5.0 tx is fixed output and modulation!, The reason for the power adjust in the iam transmitter is to make it Peak at 100 milliwatts with 100 percent of modulation to stay FCC legal.,
This in electronics industry what we call the same unit but technically they are
Consider different because of the changes inside.
This is why the transmitter was given the name of I.A.M transmitter.
I worked in the electronic industry field for 14 years so I know how The processing works.
Hope this helps out. Station 8
