At The ALPB website "How To Do It" page is an example of an inexpensive fix for those suspended mic shock mounts.
The info courtesy of Johny Cole of Rag-FM.

I've always just used girls hair "scuncci's" (I think that's how it's spelled). They're wavy hair bands for girls to make pony tails. Made of a cloth covered elastic. They come in normal and heavy duty. The HD ones are perfect for mics. Readily available at your local big box discount store for a couple dollars. Come in a variety of colors and are perfect for the job. I've been using them for probably 20 years, both at the home studio and at the group of stations I work for where we have many such mics. They last several years before losing their "boing" and isolate noise as well as the real thing. They hold up well in 24-7 commercial radio use, work even better in home studio and Part 15 use where they're not being torqued on by people shoving the mic around all day.
Funny this should come up as I need to replace some at work in "studio B" and need to stop at Wal-Mart today and pick up a new pack.

I should mention these are not suitable for the RE mics. But most other shock mounts that have the fancy rubber bands that suspend them.

One of the other volunteers found these on-line for us:
The exact model is 3022-G, and they neatly replace the little "flat" thumbscrews on the side of the 309A shock mount
